Jacopo Vecchi Fossa completed a wire to wire victory at Antognolla Golf, to become the 2019 PGA of Italy Champion. On the newly renovated Antognolla golf course, the twenty-five-year-old Fossa shot rounds of 64-65-68 for a winning score of 197, 16 under par.

The battle for the title was eventually between two golfers from the Emilia Romagna region, with Fossa holding of a spirited performance by the reigning champion, Luca Cianchetti. Chianchetti had shot a 63 in the second round and was only one shot behind Fossa midway through the final round, before a birdie for Fossa on the par 3 ninth hole and late bogeys for Chianchetti sealed the win for Fossa.

Fossa commented “the key this week was driving the ball well and then my short game from 100 yards in, which was in top gear this week. The greens at Antognolla are demanding and in great condition and my short game really helped this week.”

Chianchetti congratulated Fossa on his win, adding “it was a great battle, between two good friends who have grown up at the same club and playing together, sometimes as teammates and like today as competitors”.

There was also great satisfaction for Filippo Barbè, at his first PGAI Championship as President of the Association, who commented “It was a close contest in the end, in a very beautiful location; my congratulations to Antognolla Golf for the transformation of the golf course over the last 12 months and to presenting it in very good condition".

César Burguière, Golf Director at Antognolla was also delighted with the whole tournament. He stated “We owe huge thanks to the sponsors, who have made this event posible and we are delighted that Antognolla Golf has passed the test of holding such a prestigious professional event. This underlines the fact that the renovation work to the course has been a great success and we look forward to further investment to ensure Antognolla becomes one of the top courses in Italy”.
